About this piece

This turnlock flap bag is cut from Epsom Leather in Etoupe and made as a single piece — one maker from first cut to final burnish, not a production line. Because every bag is individual, the grain, marking and colour depth of the piece you receive are the ones in the photographs above.

How it is made

Panels are cut by hand and skived down at the folds so the seams sit flat. Edges are sanded and burnished rather than painted, which is slower but does not crack along a crease. Every seam is saddle-stitched with two needles and waxed linen thread — a stitch that holds even if a single thread is cut, which is why it is still the standard for work meant to last decades.

Looking after it

Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators. Lift marks with a soft dry cloth, and let anything wet dry naturally rather than with heat. Store it lightly stuffed and upright in its dust bag so the base and the handles keep their shape.
